Donald Trump is privately fuming at Elon Musk over the ex-DOGE leader's attack on his 'disgusting' spending plans.
The Tesla boss rampaged this week on social media over the 'big, beautiful bill' that Trump and his Republican allies in Congress have been crafting for months.
Musk derided the effort and claimed it would increase the national debt by trillions of dollars over the next decade.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released an update Wednesday morning showing that, if passed, the Trump-backed spending bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over ten years. Currently, the national debt is $37 trillion and rising.
Republicans argue the CBO number is too high, claiming it is not accurately calculating the benefits of the bill's tax cuts, and the budget deficit will actually shrink.
