Families have been evacuated from their homes in a quiet seaside cul-de-sac after the unexplained deaths of two men in adjoining homes five days apart.

Police have told residents of Gatesgarth Close in the North Yorkshire town of Scarborough they could see officers in protective clothing after the sudden death of a 69-year-old man in his home.

North Yorkshire Police was called to the scene on Monday - just five days after emergency services were called to the sudden death of a man aged 49 in an adjoining property.

Both deaths are being treated as unexplained.

Tthe occupants of two neighbouring homes have been evacuated as a precautionary measure as emergency crews investigate.
