The majority of posts on social media about fertility are misleading, untrustworthy or difficult to understand, a study reveals.
The content poses a serious threat to public health and could put people at risk during one of the most time-sensitive and emotionally charged stages of their life, researchers warn.
Doctors at King’s Fertility examined 939 posts related to reproduction on Instagram and X and found just two (0.2 per cent) met standards for accuracy, credibility, quality and readability.
Some 45 per cent contained inaccurate information, fewer than one in ten were considered credible and almost half showed clear commercial conflicts of interest.
Others were so hard to read that you would need a college education to understand them.
