A British holidaymaker is fighting for his life after plunging from a Costa del Sol hotel.

The tourist was rushed to the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella in a 'critical condition' after the incident at the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Banus near Marbella.

He was then transferred to the Regional University Hospital of Malaga in Marbella after 5am on Sunday, when the incident took place.

Witnesses say the unnamed tourist fell from a first-floor balcony although it is said to have been the equivalent of a third-floor fall because of the area the hotel is built in.

Police have not yet made any official comment but are not thought to be treating the incident as a case of so-called 'balconing' where tourists try to leap into their hotel holiday pools from their rooms or jump between balconies.
