Sir Sadiq Khan is set to spend £17million on giving homeless people up to 500 new homes as part of his plan to end rough sleeping in the capital by 2030.

The London Mayor has secured the money from the Government to refurbish the empty social homes and set up a new 24/7 'Ending Homelessness Hub'.

Mr Khan has urged councils and registered social providers to hand over any properties that are not fit for use, so the cash can be used to renovate them.

But the Conservatives accused the Labour Mayor of having 'failed' to tackle the housing crisis so far and urged him to 'force the Government to do more'.

Homelessness is soaring in London, with 4,427 people observed sleeping rough between January and March this year - up 8 per cent on the same period in 2024.
