A personal trainer who put seven police officers in hospital following a horror crash on the A1 while on the way home from a first date has appeared in court.
Mazyar Azarbonyad was giving the woman a lift back in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, in his BMW 5 series, when officers attempted to pull him over due to a faulty rear light.
But instead of stopping, the 20-year-old, who had no licence or insurance, panicked and drove off before the crash involving five police vehicles and a car.
The crash brought the busy stretch of road to a standstill for more than 12 hours on on April 9, with glass and debris left scattered across all three lanes.
Azarbonyad pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, two counts of failing to stop, having no licence and driving with no insurance.
