Pierpaolo Piccioli has been appointed creative director of Balenciaga, the Kering group announced in a statement Monday.
Piccioli, former creative director of Valentino, will take office on July 10 and will replace Demna Gvasalia, who has become the creative director of Gucci.
The first collection created by Piccioli for Balenciaga will be unveiled next October.
Balenciaga is a Spanish Basque luxury fashion house currently headquartered in Paris.
It designs, manufactures and markets ready-to-wear footwear, handbags, and accessories, and licenses its name and branding to the American cosmetics company Coty for its namesake fragrances.
