Aosta public prosecutors said Friday that four people, two doctors and two technicians, are under investigation after they completed a probe into a CAT scan performed on a cat at the city's Parini hospital in January to help save its life after the pet was injured in a fall.
The four include the cat's owner Gianluca Fanelli, the radiologist who performed the scan and the husband of League Senator Nicoletta Spelgatti, and the head of the hospital's radiology department.
They are accused of wasting public money and depriving patients of essential services.
Fanelli said the scan was administered at 11 o'clock at night when patients would not have needed scans, and has offered to pay back the cost of the procedure.
The cat is fine after Fanelli performed pneumo-thoracic surgery on it.
