A man and a woman have been re-arrested on suspicion of murder after a two-year-old girl died from serious head injuries.

Officers rushed to Houghton-Le-Spring, Sunderland, after they were called to a 'report of concern' at around 11pm on April 21.

A toddler was taken to hospital having suffered serious head injuries but died three days later on the Thursday.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the incident and were later bailed.

The pair have now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder, and have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
