A disabled man took his own life by driving his motorised wheelchair off a harbour wall into the sea, an inquest has heard.

Murdo Macleod Mackenzie was seen feeding birds at Poole Quay in Dorset before steering the machine and plunging over the edge.

A passerby who thought he would stop saw the 74-year-old disappearing 10 feet underwater.

Mr Mackenzie's body was still strapped to his wheelchair when the RNLI recovered it half an hour later.

The electrical engineer from Bournemouth had suffered from mental health issues after being assaulted on a work night out in 2018, which had a 'profound impact' on him and left him with PTSD and having panic attacks, his widow Margaret said.
