But now the former vice-president Dick Cheney, an ultra-hawkish figure and one of the most prominent Republicans in the party’s recent history, has said he’s going to vote for Kamala Harris in November, warning that Donald Trump can “never be trusted with power again”.
“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney, 83, wrote in a statement released on Friday. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.”
