A teenage boy has died and another is fighting for his life in hospital after the pair got into difficulty in a river in Northumberland, police said.
The boys, aged 13 and 14, were seen entering the water near the bridge over the Tyne in Ovingham on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services including mountain rescue, police and ambulance crews began an extensive search operation. The 13-year-old was pulled from the water and taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The body of the older boy was recovered later. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
